I offer group tuition and workshops, which focus on the following subjects or themes:
- English: Literature & Language.
- Book-based: Sessions support understand and interpretation of specific texts, general reading comprehension, text-to-performance, and book discussions; workshops tailored to a specific book project can also be devised.
- Creative writing: Poetry, short stories and scriptwriting.
- Drama: Sessions make use of various exercises – from improvisation and hot-seating, to object/prop-based exercises – designed to support and enrich the teaching of other subjects, such as English Literature or History. I can also offer: literacy-focused drama workshops; drama to develop vocabulary and oral expression; drama exercises that can be incorporated into any custom workshop.
- Exploring History: Whether exploring the Tudors or the Victorians, any period of history comes to life when approached creatively! Workshops can be tailored to a specific project and adapted to support the needs of each group or class.
- Debate and Discussion: Whether as the central focus of a workshop or, as an exercise to support and enliven the teaching of subjects such as English, History or the Sciences, debates and discussions help to develop critical thinking skills. This is a great workshop for developing problem solving skills, and to practice examining evidence and forming arguments. It can also be tailored to a specific topic, project, or school initiative, such as anti-bullying, making good decision when faced with dilemmas, and approaching other issues that may be the focus of a PSHE lesson.
- Emotional Awareness: This workshop combines discussion, creative writing, and drama exercises, tailored to the needs of a specific group, promoting a better understand of feelings and a higher vocabulary with which to express them. Workshops can also be based around a specific text, developing emotional awareness though reading comprehension and understanding of characters’ feelings and motivations.
- Developing Higher Vocabulary: Designed for all abilities, higher vocabulary exercises promote the use of “wow” words. Sessions can also be designed to challenge higher ability students.
- SATs Boosters: I can offer literacy sessions to support preparation for the year 6 exams.
